The GTT measures how well your body processes sugar over time. After a fasting blood sample, you drink a glucose solution and have your blood drawn at set intervals (commonly 1, 2, and sometimes 3 hours later) to diagnose diabetes or gestational diabetes.

How to prepare

    Eat carbohydrates Do not restrict your diet. Consume at least 150 grams of carbohydrates for three days before the test.

    Fasting required Do not eat or drink anything except water for at least 8 hours before the test.

    Stay hydrated Drink water before your appointment; only the provided glucose solution during the test itself.

    Check your medicines Ask your doctor if you should take your regular morning medications
